Special Collections Reading Room

National Library of Australia, Canberra

Opened / January 2015

The new Special Collections Reading Room at the National Library amalgamates the former reading rooms for Maps, Manuscripts, Pictures and Petherick Readers. Located on the first floor of the Library and overlooking the two storey section of the existing Main Reading Room, the new reading room occupies the heart of the Library building in an area previously occupied by underutilised office space.

This was the first stage of a larger refurbishment of the Library. Completed in June 2016, new works include an enlarged Main Reading Room; a casual Infozone work area; new café, toilets and cloaking facilities and several new office areas.
